![]() Couple all of that with a game supporting cast - Channing Tatum has a fun cameo, even if Reynolds' own cameo is still the easy winner - some standout scope for upcoming Jodie Comer ( Help, Killing Eve) to steal the stage, and a largely frivolously fun plot which also enjoys more than a hint of sci-fi bite.įree Guy looks suitably flash, glossy and near-perfect. ![]() Free Guy, judged by the trailers, looked pretty throwaway, but it's actually one of the year's least likely hidden gems, a more thoughtful, witty and inspired effort than you may have ever assumed, with an on-form Reynolds finding a slightly different character who innately makes his trademark wit not just tolerable, but frequently witty even. If you like his schtick, that's fine - to a point - but we've been in need of something perhaps more inspired from Reynolds for some time now. Reynolds had a real career resurgence with Deadpool, turning around the Green Lantern-incurred decline with an unleashed comic book love letter, but - perhaps unsurprising - capitalising largely by playing the same role on repeat. ![]() Reynolds is tolerably committed, Comer is great, and Free Guy is a surprisingly fun blast of sandbox sci-fi mayhem.
